Product Description

Scientific Name:  Ranitomeya variabilis

Site Information:  INIBICO

Common Name:  Variabilis

Native Habitat:  North-Eastern Peru

Sexual Maturity:  ~ 8 -10 months (Males can call as early as 5 months)

Average Size:  ~ .5 - .75 inches

Description:  A frog that can be very bold in the right enclosures, does well communally in female heavy groups.  An arboreal species that spends a lot of time up in the tree tops among bromeliads, it is found in higher elevations and as such temperatures in the low to mid 70's are best but many keep them in tanks with higher temperatures.  Tanks that have cascading bromeliads are suggested, as these are the perfect tanks for this species.  This particular morph is a metallic green/yellow with black dots covering the dorsal surface of its body.  Males have a low vibrating call, and females tend to be larger than the males.  The more densely planted their environment the safer the frogs will feel and the more likely they are to be out and about.

  1. Awesome Frogs!

Posted by Unknown on 16th Jun 2012

I've gotten frogs from a couple other sources on the web, and that being said, it's clear to me that Tropical Ecos really puts extra care into their frogs. The frogs arrived nearly adult sized, chubby, and quite active. They were eating immediately out of the box. Simply put, Tropical Ecos has top notch frogs! I wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

I ordered these expecting small 3 month old froglets, I got 3 huge healthy frogs that are fast and look better than the picture! I should hear some calling any day now based on their size! Great purchase I will be buying my frogs from Tropical Ecos from now on! Thanks!
